The State of Connecticut's / State of New York's Department of Special Licensing and Firearms Unit defines an "Assault Weapon" as the following:

Any Semi-automatic center-fire rifle, regardless of the date of production, that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least one of the following features... A folding or telescoping stock; Any grip of the weapon, including a pistol grip, thumbhole stock, or other stick that would allow an individual to grip the weapon, resulting in any finger on the trigger hand in addition to the trigger finger being directly below any portion of the action of the weapon when firing; a forward pistol grip; a flash suppressor; a grenade or flare launcher.

The CT Other is not a rifle as it does not have a buttstock, it is not a pistol because it has a forward vertical grip. It specifically is not a pistol under CT/NY Law as the minimum barrel length is 12.5" (CT defines a pistol as a barrel length 12" or shorter.) It is not an AOW as it has an overall length greater than 26"
