Ep17 p6of7 The Day of Jezreel

This is the 6th video in a series of seven bible study about Ephraim.
First we look at a chronology map of the kings of Israel and Judah. I quickly summarize the history of the kings of Israel from Jeroboam to Ahab. King Omri built the city of Samaria as his capital. Ahab and Jezebel forced Baal worship on the kingdom of Israel. They built a house of Baal in Samaria. Jezebel was the daughter of the King of the Phoenician city of Sidon. God raised up the prophet Elijah against Ahab and Jezebel. Ahab and Jezebel had a second palace in the northern city of Jezreel. Ahab saw a vineyard that he wanted in Jezreel but it belonged to a man of Jezreel named Naboth. When Ahab offered to buy Naboths vineyard Naboth refused because it was a family inheritance. Ahab became sad and Jezebel found out it was because he could not buy Naboths vineyard. Jezebel called the elders of Jezreel together and told them to proclaim a fast to YHWH and to put Naboth at the front of the people and to have false accusers accuse him of blasphemy in front of everyone. This did happen and Naboth was stoned to death. Jezebel then went to Ahab and said Naboth is dead , go and claim your vineyard. This made Ahab very happy. As he was on his way to the vineyard, Elijah met him on the road pronouncing curse on Ahab and Jezebel that they would both be killed in Jezreel and the entire family would be wiped out. Ahab fasted and repented so YHWH said 'I will not bring it in his days I will bring it upon his son'.
The prophet Elijah then had the 400 prophets of Baal killed after defeating them on Mount Carmel Jezebel threatened the prophet Elijah's life. The prophet Elijah then ran to hide in a cave near Mount Sinai. This is where the prophet Elijah had the still small voice experience. The prophet Elijah then anointed Jehu as king over Israel. Jehu carried out the prophet Elijah's prophecies against Ahab and Jezebel. Jehu besieged Ahab's son Jehoram in the city of Jezreel he also killed Ahaziah the king of Judah because he was there visiting his uncle Ahab. Jezebel locked herself in the tower at Jezreel, Jehu called up to the eunuchs in the tower to throw her down and they did , Jehu then trampled her with his horse and the dogs ate her. The dogs then ate her. Jehu then murdered the entire bloodline of Ahab. He then called for a great gathering of the worshipers of Baal at the house of Baal in Samaria he then locked the doors and slaughtered them all. Jehu eradicated Baal worship from the northern kingdom of Israel but he didn't take down the golden calves at Bethel and Dan that Jeroboam had set up.
YHWH then said to Jehu 'Because you have followed my instructions perfectly, your children shall sit on the throne of Israel for four generations'.
The fourth generation from Jehu was King Jeroboam II. Under this king the northern kingdom of Israel reached it's peak.
Hosea begins by taking a wife of adultery named Gomer. She then bears him a son and YHWH names him Jezreel because he will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu and cause to end the kingdom of the house of Israel. She then bore a daughter to Hosea and YHWH named her Lo-Ruhama because I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel but I will have mercy upon the house of Judah.
She then bore another son and YHWH named him Loammi because you are not my people and I am not your god yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea. The the children of Israel and the children of Judah shall be gathered together and appoint themselves one head and they shall come up out of the land for great shall be the day of Jezreel.
We speak about the significance of the name Gomer and the name Jezreel. We also look at the apparent contradiction between Hosea 1 and 2 Kings 10. On the one he says that Jehu has done all that was in YHWH's heart while in Hosea he says ' I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu '.
Ahab and Jezebel were good friends with Jehoshaphat the king of Judah. They named their children after each other. They both had a son named Jehoram. Ahab and Jezebel had a son also named Ahaziah. Jehoshaphat's son named Jehoram married the daughter of Ahab and Jezebel who's name was Athaliah, her son from Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat was named Ahaziah. When Jehu destroyed the entire family of Ahab and Jezebel he also killed Ahaziah the son of Athaliah and Jehoram who was of the house of David, not the house of Ahab. Ahaziah was in Jezreel at the time visiting his grand mother and grandfather, Ahab and Jezebel.
This was a mistake by Jehu because Ahaziah was not of the house of Ahab he was of the house of David.
If we look back to Hosea chapter one we see that it is about destroying the northern kingdom of Israel but saving the kingdom of Judah and then bringing in a new Israel once the kingdom of Judah was weaned from the milk.
The milk represents basic teachings of the gospel. While meat represent the discernment between good and evil.
