Animals are living beings that, like plants, need food and water to live.
However, unlike plants, which produce their own food, animals have to eat plants and other animals.
They are also able to feel what is happening around them and are able to move around, reacting to the environment.
Animals use their senses and movement to find food and safety, as well as to search for a mate.
Scientists classify animals into two main groups: vertebrates and invertebrates. Those who have a spine are vertebrates. The ones that don't have it are the invertebrates, which constitute a much more numerous group: about 95 percent of all animals.

Invertebrates
Some invertebrate animals have a soft, unprotected body. Examples include sponges, jellyfish and worms. Most invertebrates that have a soft body do not have legs. Many animals of this type live in water, but some worms live on land.
