Assault on 'California Dreaming' of an Assault Weapons Ban

First, the good news. A federal judge has found that California’s assault weapons ban is unconstitutional. Now the bad news. Judge Benitez did not so much find that you have an inalienable right to keep and bear arms, but that the Attorney General of California did not provide a sufficiently compelling government interest in restricting that right when it comes to what California calls “assault weapons.”
If the Constitution is a shield from the tyranny of the majority, why does judge Benitez claim the Second Amendment only applies to popular firearms?
