This summer from Jun 18–Aug 15, 2021, the Art Institute of Chicago welcomes two acclaimed portraits to its galleries: Kehinde Wiley’s painting of President Barack Obama and Amy Sherald’s portrait of former First Lady Michelle Obama.

In honor of the multi-city tour of these controversial works we are going to do a deep dive and see what's up.

Some acclaim these portraits as bold expressions of Modern Art breaking away from Presidential Portraits of the past.
