BODYCAM: Armed Suspect Took One Step Too Many Towards Officer in Tucson

TUCSON, ARIZONA - TPD (Tucson Police Department) released body cam footage of an incident where a suspect took one step too many towards officer, resulting in a fatal officer involved shooting.

On June 04, 2021, at approx. 8:15 p.m., a TPD K9 officer was flagged down by a female who claimed she was the victim of a domestic assault, but was uninjured. During a search for the suspect, officers located him at Jesse Owens park, armed with a sharp-edged weapon.

In the video, an officer can be heard giving him verbal commands to drop the knife, but he did not comply. At one point, an officer says “I don’t want to shoot you, but I will if I have to,” which caused suspect to advance towards the officers. Officers proceeded to give verbal instructions to drop the weapon, but he continued to advance towards the officers, resulting in an officer involved shooting. Lifesaving measures were taken, but he was pronounced dead on scene. - LEO Perspective
