AP Exclusive: New election systems use vulnerable software (July 13, 2019)

"AP found that the vast majority of the nation's 10,000 election jurisdictions, including those that have recently acquired new systems, will be managing their elections - that is creating ballots and programming voting machines, tallying votes and reporting counts - on Windows 7 or an even older operating system.
That's significant because Windows 7 reaches its "end of life" date on Jan. 14, meaning Microsoft will no longer provide technical support and produce "patches" to fix known software vulnerabilities found in computer code that hackers can exploit to get into someone's computer system."
