A gate has suddenly appeared on this land, which has caused some controversy. I understand a local farmer did this to put some animals on the land, but my understanding is it is common land belonging to us. I am told that there used to be an annual fair here dating back to the Medieval times on this land to celebrate the Pagan well by the side of St Johns church. Hopefully this will ensure this land is protected due to the heritage and brought back to a reasonable state so the public can walk and relax there. It really needs and archeological survey, as it is said Roman coins were found here. I am told up to a few years ago Tinkers used to stop here with their horse frawn carriages, wouldn't it be nice to see this happening again.
