NASA's Iconic Blue Marble photo is just a cheap photoshop

I is supposed to be an image taken from space 100,000 miles from earth by Apollo 17 in 1972.
The artist, Simmons, admits it was a composite from data. If the data was real, why is the image chock full of impossible repetitions of cloud formations?
