As unbelievable as it may seem, Joe Biden, the future President-elect, has now served in public office for 44 years! That's almost twice my age! Throughout that time, he's been known as Middle-Class Joe, and he's frequently referred to himself as one of Congress' poorest members. He's no longer the poorest member of Congress, with several real estate holdings, including a few in Delaware, and a history of living in luxury residences, as we'll see in this film. Joe Biden originates from humble beginnings; he was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to a father who had a string of financial disappointments, and his mother was a single mother. Joe wasn't much different there, at least for a while. According to the Wall Street Journal, Biden's life-long fixation with real estate was one of the reasons he was frequently at the bottom of the income ladder among his Senate colleagues. His net worth plummeted as he got older, and by 2007, he was in the red. When his net worth was believed to be less than $30,000, he was named the least wealthiest Senator in the United States. However, the 77-year-old President-Elect is no longer in the middle class. Biden and his wife Jill are now worth up to $9 million, according to a Forbes estimate from 2019. Much of it came from $100,000 lecture fees and $8 million book deals that poured in following his Vice Presidency.
