Authorities have arrested Darvin E. Johnson in connection with a June 2 chase that started on the west side of Columbus and ended in Delaware County.

Johnson is charged with six counts of felonious assault, felony fleeing, theft of a firearm, and shooting into a habitation.

Authorities say Johnson also had outstanding warrants for domestic violence, assault, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

The incident started around 10:30 a.m. when the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of shots fired into a home on Unroe Avenue.

According to the sheriff’s office, the Franklin Township Police Department assisted with the call as authorities followed the suspect along I-71 North. The ensuing pursuit lasted around 20 minutes and took officers and deputies through Columbus, past Polaris, and into Delaware County.

The chase ended around 11 a.m., at the I-71 Sunbury exit in Delaware County, where the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the suspect hit three other vehicles.

According to the sheriff’s office, Johnson was captured in a nearby parking lot after getting out of his vehicle.

“We made every attempt we could to try to mitigate the pursuit, however in this situation, this was a very dangerous individual being a gunman, being potentially armed and we had a responsibility to try to safely bring him into custody without further harming the public and/or having him potentially end somewhere in a business or whatever with that firearm,” said Chief Deputy Jim Gilbert, with the sheriff’s office.

Investigators said there were no major injuries out of this incident.
