Supporting migratory birds during their long journey

Migratory birds need a network of healthy habitats along their entire migration routes to survive. Increased global action through multilateral environmental treaties such as the Convention on Migratory Species and the African-Eurasian Waterfowl Convention is essential to protect migratory birds on their international flights. The creation of corridors of transboundary protected habitats would also be extremely beneficial for migratory birds and other migratory wildlife, particularly at the landscape scale. In addition, networks of major migration sites must be properly protected and managed.

Supporting Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, as described by BirdLife International, which, with the help of migratory birds, provides the necessary feeding, breeding, nesting and shelter areas for their long journeys
