History and Cultural Impact of LBGTQ
Stories from the untold history of queer and trans communities. Presenters will share examples of the care these communities provide for each other when interactions with services and institutions can be dangerous, oppressive, and riddled with biases. We will focus primarily on the less familiar, hidden stories. We’ll hear stories from indigenous cultures whose expansive understandings of gender and sexuality were gutted by imperialism. And we’ll hear stories from communities of color, women, bisexual people, and transgender people that are so often left out or glossed over. Through these stories, participants will have the opportunity to debunk the myth that LGBTQ+ experiences are restricted to white people in the United States.
