In 1831 the name "Old Glory" was bestowed on the American Flag by a Massachusetts merchant ship captain, William Driver during one of his long voyages. The flag itself was specified and defined by the Constitutional Congress in 1775 - and officially sewn by Betsy Ross on June 14, 1775. Despite what those flag burners who believe that only certain lives matter might say, flags are indeed important. It is by these sigils we learn who one's allegiance belongs to.
