The wild-jararaca (scientific name: Bothrops jararaca) is a snake of up to 1.6 m, found in Brazil (from Bahia to Rio Grande do Sul) and in adjacent regions in Paraguay and Argentina. It lives in a preferentially humid environment, such as the banks of rivers and streams, where rats and frogs are also found, its most hunted dishes. He sleeps during the day under dry, damp foliage and enjoys sunbathing after the rain.It tends to be well camouflaged on dry leaves, when threatened it flattens and flaps its tail on the leaves. Bothrops jararaca play an important role in controlling the population of rats, which transmit diseases such as leptospirosis, causing many deaths.
