Narcissistic Enabling Parents

Narcissist parenting is becoming more and more well known, but one of the aspects that can be less obvious and at times too painful to face is the role the Narcissistic Enabling Parent plays in the abuse and manipulation of the narcissistic parent. Many times they stand back and allow clear physical, emotional, and mental abuse for YEARS while playing the role of the "nurturer" by coming to the rescue AFTER the abuse has been allowed. Putting no boundaries in place, speaking soothing words of encouragement, and even speaking negatively about the abusive parent by offering anything from slight justification or excusing language all the way to vocally endorsing the abuse and stunning cruelty if the child or victim attempts to take a stand or break free from the control. In the end, aware of the role they play or not - they can be every bit as destructive on the psyche of the victims because of the depth of love they communicate emotionally WHILE allowing the torment to continue - in the end only reinforcing the idea that the misery and judgment the child receives is ultimately deserved.
