I love the honesty of a song like Good Good Father which starts out “I’ve heard a thousand stories of what they think You’re like.” It acknowledges that people have many varying views of who God is and what they believe about His nature. But as we listen and worship through the song, it’s as if it states “this is Who He is (He’s a good good Father) and there’s nothing that can change it.” Perfect in all of His ways, good to us, loving and kind…these attributes are known by those who seek Him and desire to walk in fellowship with Him. Yes we need songs that balance out the loving nature of God with His holiness and righteousness. There are songs that do that. But as we are reminded of God’s righteousness, we must also know He loves us. Deeply. This song (written by Anthony Brown and Pat Barrett) helps us understand just how good our Father is. We may have had imperfect fathers. We may be imperfect as dads (I know I am!). But it’s good to know I can run to the One that is perfect. Who loves me with a love that nothing in this world can offer.
