SERMON NOTES
Hear, Speak, Live
Proverbs 1:5-10
'A wise man will hear and increase learning, And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel, To understand a proverb and an enigma, The words of the wise and their riddles. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction. My son, hear the instruction of your father, And do not forsake the law of your mother; For they will be a graceful ornament on your head, And chains about your neck. My son, if sinners entice you, Do not consent.'

I. Listen Well (Mark 12:28-34)
• Good Morning!! I am so glad that you are here with us today!!
• As we look at our text today, we are taking a look at some very powerful and insightful truths.
• We know that this particular proverb is one that Solomon is receiving from his father David.
• Listen to the wording that is provided in verse 5 at the start.
• Listen carefully to this encounter Jesus has in Mark 12!
• Expound on why listening is important!

II. Speak Words of Wisdom!! (II Tim. 3:16-17)
• As we continue to look at our text, we see that attention is paid to the “words of the wise!”
• Q. Has there ever been a time when you were in need of wise counsel? When you heard the answer that you received did you question it?
• You see there are many people that are giving out advice, but their advice is not founded on the facts. I know that might sound redundant, but they are going off of feelings not facts.
• We as believers are called to reason from God’s word! Why you ask? Because God has given us the truth!
• As we search the Word of God we see that time after time, we can find the truth is revealed!
• Listen to what we learn from (Psalms 1 & II Timothy 3:16-17)

III. Live The Truth
• As we look to the final parts of the text, we see that the teaching is getting really personal now.
• Now we are being called to not only hear the truth, and speak the truth, now we are being called to live the truth.
• Look at the words that David is giving to Solomon. He is calling for him to heed the words of instruction and wisdom.
• In verse 10, David instructs Solomon to not set his foot to the path of sin.
• As we heard in Psalms 1, we see that it calls for the righteous person to not set their feet and life to the pathway of good as opposed to the way of the wicked.
• Q. Will you heed the words of wisdom? Will you choose the path of righteousness instead of the path of wickedness?
• There is a fix for this! Choose Jesus Today!!!
