Watch the cute little shark that swims into frame and kind of mimics me (right side of frame.) So cute and so funny, I was just imagining her snuggling back into the sand like “take my photo too
In reality this shark is just enjoying a quick back scratch before settling in to relax. Nurse sharks are one of the few species that don’t have to continually swim to breathe so they relax on the sand while not actively swimming.
Utilizing buccal pumping they bring water into their mouth and pump it over their gills. Sharks that are unable to do this can die if they are not able to continually swim which happens often when they are caught on fishing line for an extended period of time.
