20210530 Taxing the Rich - The Daily Summation
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I'm going to say this again.
There is NO WAY OF WHICH I'M AWARE, to make taxation ANYTHING BUT redistribution of wealth.
You can argue for infrastructure and common goods and services. Fact is, if I'm well enough off, I DON'T CARE ABOUT EITHER. More importantly, who gets the MOST use out of such things as a rule?
Even if you argue the better off folks run their trucks on public roads, who ends up getting the resultant goods and services? I PROMISE YOU it is NOT just the wealthy.
As for programs like public health, or welfare, just how much do you believe those who have a plethora of resources care about such things?
To make all of this the much worse, most people with lower income either pay NOTHING, or VERY LITTLE in taxes.
You MUST know the result. It can be summed up in JUST ONE QUESTION. "Who bears the brunt, paying the MAJORITY OF TAXES?"
If you make $32,000 a year (around $15 an hour), even if you paid 25 percent in taxes (and for most of that, you'd pay NOTHING), you'd pay $8,000 in tax a year.
Sound high? Let's look at somebody making $250,000 a year and FLAT TAXED (NOT how that works, by the way) at 25 percent.
How much do THEY pay? Not much, it would only be $62,500 (just under EIGHT TIMES AS MUCH as the person making $32,000).
Again, THIS IS NOT reality (the higher earner would pay MORE, the lower LESS than the amounts shown).
And all this is for services the person making the larger amount is likely to NEVER USE.
Maybe that's fair in YOUR mind. It's not so reasonable in mine (and I'm NOT the person making that large paycheck.
This is what I talk about on today's edition of The Daily Summation from Kurt's Religion and Politics.
