Meet the Russian-made ‘taxi of the future’ – one of the first battery-powered and fully autonomous vehicles to hit the streets of Moscow for testing. And no, it’s not a Lada.

This futuristic car is the brainchild of SberAutoTech and offers a simple, yet significant advantage over other electric vehicles.
Most electric cars are built with a non-removable battery pack integrated into their frame – requiring the entire vehicle to be plugged in, sometimes for several hours at a time.

This new prototype features a quickly and easily removable battery, with discharged cells taken out in less than five minutes – making the process akin to filling up a gas tank.

Intended for use in logistics, food delivery, and transport services, the removable battery is an important feature that allows the autonomous car to keep working around the clock, with minimal downtime.

Seating up to six passengers, the company has also hinted at a version that runs on alternative fuel sources, such as natural gas. The futuristic roadster is currently being tested and has not yet been given a price tag.
