RetroTink 5x Gameplay Spotlight - Sega Saturn & HD Retrovision Cables
In this episode, we once again focus on one game system with the RetroTink 5X, this time being the Sega Saturn.
In just a few short weeks, I have come to really love and appreciate the RetroTink 5X. What it does to improve the quality of just about every video game system I have is nothing short of remarkable. In our review, we absolutely loved it, but we didn't have time to focus on each individual console as much as I would have liked to. To fill in the gaps, we are occasionally going to be releasing videos focusing on just one system. That's what we are doing right now, and we are taking a look at the RetroTink 5X connected to our Sega Saturn.

To connect our Saturn to our RetroTink 5X, I used a set of HD Retrovision component video cables along with one of their Model 2 Genesis to Saturn adapters. I had tried to utilize Insurrection Industries SCART cables for the Model 2 Genesis with the same adapter, but it did not work. In reaching out to Insurrection Industries they informed me that their SCART cables use a different sync method than what HD Retrovision uses, and as such this adapter was not compatible.
From the word go, I was thoroughly impressed with the video quality out of the Saturn. There is a dedicated Saturn profile loaded into the RetroTink 5X, and it looked amazing. Colors were vibrant, pixels were sharp, and performance was spectacular. At no point did I feel any lag, latency, or delay.
I will admit I am not the biggest fan of the Saturn, but with this setup I just might start playing it more. While the Saturn may be known more for its fighters, I really did enjoy a lot of the additional titles I spent time with here. This was my first experience with BUG!, something I may or may not spend a lot more time with. While I do not have it yet, Clockwork Knight is another title I want to add to my collection now and I anticipate it will also look great. Finally, I cannot say how thrilled I was with how Earthworm Jim 2 looked and played going through the RetroTInk 5x. This is the best this game has even looked before, and I love how it plays. This is truly remarkable!
I'm thoroughly impressed with how well the Saturn looked through the RetroTink 5X. I had been using my OSSC for the Saturn prior to this, and I will say I will not be going back. Everything that the RetroTink does, it does it flawlessly and effortlessly. All you have to do is select the right profile and you are good to go. This is the type of plug and play convenience that I was looking for and I am thrilled to say the RetroTink 5X definitely delivers.
