Camp Tyson, Tennessee was an essential part of the defense strategy of the United States Army during World War II. It was a Barrage Balloon Training Camp that trained over 25,000 soldiers that included the 320th Battalion which was an all black unit. It also served as a prisoner of war camp for German and Italian prisoners who were captured in Europe and sent to the U.S.
