The German Shepherd - The German Shepherd dogs are medium to large-sized working dog breed with domed forehead and square-cut muzzle with strong jaw and black nose.

They are especially well known for their police work, in tracking criminals and patrolling dangerous areas, and in detecting and holding suspects.

The breed gained international recognition after the end of World War I. Returning soldiers spoke highly of German shepherds, and animal actors Rin Tin Tin and Strongheart further popularized the breed.

Fun Fact: The world’s first skydiving anti-poaching dog was Arrow, a German Shepherd.

Due to WWI-related anti-German sentiment, the UK changed the breed's name to Alsatian, and only changed it back to German Shepherd in 1977.
