Mk 38 25mm Machine Gun System Testing in Field

The MK 38 (M242 Bushmaster) is a 25 mm (25×137mm) chain-driven machine gun system (MGS) installed for ship self-defense. A derivative of the M242 system, the Mk 38 consists of the M242 chain gun and the Mk 88 Mod 0 machine gun mount. The MK 38 MOD 0 25 mm MGS replaced the MK 16 20 mm gun system and was then upgraded to a MK 38 MOD 1 MGS. Designed primarily as a close-range defensive measure, it protects patrol boats, floating mines, and various shore-based targets.
