Judges 11:34-35
When Jephthah came to his house at Mizpah, behold, his daughter was coming out to meet him with tambourines and with dancing. Now she was his one and only child; besides her he had no son or daughter. When he saw her, he tore his clothes and said, “Alas, my daughter! You have brought me very low, and you are among those who trouble me; for I have given my word to the LORD, and I cannot take it back.”

• For the sake of victory over his enemies, Jephthah made a vow to the Lord that anything coming through his door next would be given to Him as a burnt offering, and his daughter walked in. Tragically, he had to keep his word and lose his daughter. He was serious about his vow, but he didn’t expect his daughter to walk in. Our words to God should be thought through carefully, but so should our words to men. This is what integrity is all about, and it is one of the signs of spiritual maturity only if we stay true to our promises. Don’t make promises you might not be able to keep!
