Our guest on this edition of The Ex Terra Podcast is Kevin O’Connell, who recently founded Space Economy Rising following a stint as the Director of the Office of Space Commerce within the U.S. Department of Commerce.

The Office of Space Commerce is the principal organization for space commerce policy activities within the U.S. Department of Commerce. Its mission is to foster the conditions for the economic growth and technological advancement of the U.S. commercial space industry.

His new venture, Space Economy Rising, works with clients and partners worldwide on all aspects of the growing space economy. As space technology advances, we need an equal emphasis on the economic inputs — entrepreneurship, talent, the impact of regulation, and private investment — and the growing contribution of space to economic growth.

According to Mr. O’Connell, private investment is diversifying and accelerating space activities, whether for exploration or the creation of new services on Earth. We are working with entrepreneurs across the space industry while also working to deepen our understanding of the key economic inputs to and benefits from space activities.

Topics covered in this edition of The Ex Terra Podcast include:

The accomplishments of the Office of Space Commerce under O’Connell’s leadership, and what remains to be done following the change in administration.

An update on the BEA’s Space Satellite Account which we discussed with Dr. Tina Highfill on our first podcast.
