The automaker has been caught up in multiple controversies in China recently, drawing criticism from the state-run media. China is Tesla’s 2nd largest market worldwide, and was responsible for 30% of the company’s sales in 2021 so far. A Tesla gigafactory was built in Shanghai in 2019.
