Fallow deer are one of the only deer species alive with palmate antlers, over otherwise antlers that look like open human hands. Moose are another deer species with palmate antlers! The fallow deer is captively kept on every inhabited continent and the males of the species are larger than females. These deer have a triton shaped black line on their tails and rear ends and they have spots throughout their entire lives. Fallow deer appear in four color patterns: common, menil, melanistic (black), and leucistic (white - but not albino!).

Scientific Name: Dama dama
Range: Europe and Asia but introduced to every inhabited continent
Size: 2.5-3 (80-90cm) feet at the shoulders; 90-150 pounds (40-70kg)
Diet: grasses, leaves, tree bark, berries
Lifespan: 15+ years
