I got a half-turned bowl blank from someone else's discards and thought I could make something out of it. The blank was asymmetrical and had been partly filled with dark epoxy for contrast.
I gripped the foot with the chuck and then turned a new inset foot in the top. Then I smoothed the outside down with a fingernail gouge and sanded and polished it, keeping the original foot since it was still OK.
