The Earth field magnetic boat or VIRUS magnetic propelled boat is doing about 8 inches per minute in this video. The magnet is a compass. When the servo turns the magnet the magnet then as it returns to pointing to Earth's north pole turns the whole boat. In the process of cycling slowly from side to side it moves the whole boat north from conservation of momentum.
It is as if two spinning tops were colliding and flying apart in opposite directions. In our case one top is the spinning boat while the other spinning top is the large compass (magnet).
