The green parakeet usually seeks its food from the treetops. This species feeds on fruits such as coconut, mango, jabuticaba, guavas, lime oranges, papayas, jackfruit, bananas, coquinho-jerivá, apple, green and dry coconut, watermelon and pear. They love swine, mango, jabuticaba, guava, orange, papaya and jackfruit flowers.

They also do not dispense with insects, larvae and sunflower seeds. He has a habit of holding food with one foot to take it to the beak. In captivity a good extruded feed for curved-billed birds, such as cockatiels, can be used without problems.
