Parrots, also known as psittacines, are birds of approximately 398 species [3] in 92 genera that comprise the order Psittaciformes found mainly in tropical and subtropical regions. The order is subdivided into three superfamilies: aPsittacoidea ("true" parrots), Cacatuoidea (cockatoos) and Strigopoidea (New Zealand parrots). One third of all species of parrots are threatened with extinction, with a higher aggregated risk of extinction than any other comparable group of birds.
