PA District 59 - Ballot Question #1
May 18, 2020 Special Election - District 59
Ballot Question #1:
Legislative Resolution to Extend or Terminate Emergency Declaration Amendment (May 2021)
VOTE YES:
A "yes" vote supports this constitutional amendment to allow the Pennsylvania General Assembly to pass a resolution, which the governor cannot veto, by a simple majority to extend or terminate the governor's emergency declaration.
VOTE NO:
A "no" vote opposes this constitutional amendment, meaning that the governor would continue to be allowed to veto resolutions terminating emergency declarations and a two-thirds legislative vote would be required to override the veto.
WHY I AM VOTING YES.
I am opposed to consolidated power. This ballot measure would remove the ability for one political party to control the Pennsylvania population. The power a person wields today will be wielded by the people of tomorrow. We don’t know who those people will be. So I support spreading that power out over our body of elected officials in the general assembly.
