What is aurora borealis and where does it occur?
The phenomenon happens when particles from the Sun (the so-called solar winds) collide with the Earth's magnetic field and are pulled to the poles, ionizing other elements.
You can see the colorful sky at night or in the late afternoon in February, March, April, September and October, when solar activity is higher. The name aurora borealis is given when the phenomenon happens in regions near the North Pole. The same occurs in the South Pole, and is called aurora australis. What causes the aurora borealis?
Upon entering the Earth's atmosphere, solar particles are channeled by the Earth's magnetic field and concentrate at the poles.
With this, other elements are found in the highest layers of the atmosphere, and are formed luminous points and circular or horizontal bands, full of colors. The variety is produced by irradiation of different ions.
