Strange Planets In Space

In the past 20 years, astronomers around the world have cataloged about 850 planets outside our Solar System.

The search for worlds that orbit other stars has led to the discovery of some strange planets, from a giant of hot gas, darker than coal, to a planet with four suns.

Below, some of the strangest examples.

In a scene from the Star Wars saga, when the character Luke Skywalker looks at the horizon, he sees two suns setting on the planet Tatooine.

Astronomers have already discovered several systems similar to that of fiction, in which planets orbit double stars.

But in 2012, amateur astronomers found a planet illuminated by four stars, the first of its kind.

The distant world is in the constellation of Cygnus, orbits a pair of stars and a second pair revolves around them. It is 5,000 light-years from Earth and its radius is six times that of our planet (the size of Neptune).
