20210508 Latency - The Daily Summation

Did you ever have that, "Doggone it!" moment, when you pushed a tree limb to the side, only to have it smack you in the face as a result of your having done so?

Boys and girls, this is an example of LATENCY. Sometimes the effect from a given cause is not so obvious.

This is something I think a lot of people don't realize about things like, shutting down production (even ostensibly, on a temporary basis).

Some things ALMOST IMMEDIATELY, fall into a "shortage status." Other things? It may take weeks, months, or years for that to happen.

How long does it take to get a cow from calving to fully grown (or even largely so)?

I'm betting it's more than a year.

The result? You may not REALLY notice a beef shortage for a FULL YEAR after production has been curtailed.

This is what I wanted to talk about on today's edition of The Daily Summation from Kurt's Religion and Politics.

When I'm able to complete the companion article on the Kurt's Religion and Politics blog, I'll post a link to it here.
