Dr. Jeff Barke Government Tyranny Is the Virus

It is not COVID-19 that decimated our economy, kept kids out of school, and created a mental health crisis in our country. It was our government. It was not COVID-19 that caused the highest teen suicide rate we have ever seen and caused a skyrocketing of domestic violence and child abuse. It was our government. Our reaction to COVID-19 has caused more pain and suffering than the virus itself. As we now enter a new phase of this pandemic where vaccines will likely be mandated, it is our liberty and freedoms that are at stake. Never in the history of our county has the government determined who is essential and who is non-essential. Never in the history of our great republic has the government shut down houses of worship while keeping open liquor stores and marijuana dispensaries. We have entered a dystopian period when the famous books 1984 and Animal Farm are coming true - one mask good, three masks better! We will not be saved by a politician or statesman. We will not be saved by some benevolent outside force. Rather, America needs a liberty revival, the kind that motivated patriots to dump tea into Boston Harbor, the kind that led to Thomas Jefferson at the age of 33 writing the Declaration of Independence. If we lose liberty now there is nowhere else to run. We must stand and fight for our founding ideals articulated in the Declaration of Independence and our Constitution.

Dr. Jeffrey Barke is a board-certified primary care physician in private practice for over 25 years. He completed his medical school and family practice residency at the University of California, Irvine. He has served as an Associate Clinical Professor at U.C.
