The Shwezigon Pagoda (or Shwezigon Paya) is a Buddhist stupa located in the town of Nyaung U near the ancient Burmese city of Bagan. The pagoda was first started in the 11th century by King Anawrahta and was completed between the years of 1086 and 1090 by his successor, King Kyanzittha. Covered in more than 30,000 copper plates, this temple became the prototype for all Burmese religious structures.
