The orange thrush (Turdus rufiventris) is a common bird in South America and the best known of all thrushes, identified by the color of rust on the belly and by its melodious song during the reproductive period. [1] It is especially appreciated in Brazil; According to the Decree of October 3, 2002, national celebrations of Bird Day should focus on the Sabiá-laranjeira, "a representative symbol of the Brazilian ornithological fauna and popularly considered National Bird of Brazil". [2] It was already a symbol of the state of São Paulo since 1966. [3] It is cited by several poets as the bird that sings about love and spring [4] and was also present in the official emblem of the 2013 Confederations Cup, held in Brazil.
