Asian women assaulted with hammer in NYC amid hate-crime surge

Two Asian women have been viscously attacked with a hammer in the middle of New York City’s tourist hub – Times Square.

It’s the latest incident in a wave of assaults against Asian people across the US. New York City in particular has seen a surge in anti-Asian hate crimes since the start of the year.

Video released by police shows one of the women being struck across the head, while the other attempted to fight back.

The unidentified woman who received the blow to the head is from Taiwan, and was hospitalized after the incident – requiring seven stitches.

She told local news that she now intends to returns to the country she'd left for America.
