Nury Turkel was born in a Chinese re-education camp where his mother was imprisoned at the height of China’s Cultural Revolution. Now, he’s a Commissioner on the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom.

The Chinese Communist Party has been waging a war on faith, Turkel says. Uyghurs Muslims in Xinjiang are being treated as less than human and forcibly sterilized, religious believers are forced to study Xi Jinping thought, and Falun Gong practitioners are being killed for their organs.
