The slavery history that tarnishes Napoleon's legacy

Clovis Etchiandas will not be thinking of Napoleon's wartime glories and brilliant statecraft when France marks 200 years after the emperor's death on Wednesday. As a descendant of slaves like most Creoles on the Indian Ocean island of Reunion, Etchiandas will instead be reminded that he reversed the abolition of slavery in the French colonies in 1802.
