Feeding Clownfish Probiotics to Increase their Health in your Reef Tank

Probiotics are widely available for us, particularly for intestinal health - but other claims are made. Even our dogs & cats can get probiotics - so why not our fish? What does the science say?

It turns out we could use a commonly available probiotic bacteria - Lactobacillus plantarum - in combination with the food we already feed our Ocellaris clownfish to give them better health and stronger immunity against things like Vibrio fluvialis. In our reef tanks this is pretty easy since we can just open up some of the probiotics tablets and sprinkle the bacteria granules onto the food that we're feeding our clownfish. In the paper (linked below) the team cultured their bacteria and then sprinkled it on the food.
