20210503 Due Process - The Daily Summation

I've never found myself on the "wrong side of" a criminal situation. For that fact, I'm happier than you can possibly know.

If I ever do though, I PROMISE YOU, I'll be supremely happy for the idea of DUE PROCESS.

If I have my way, I'll never be guilty of any crime sufficient to cause more than a misdemeanor charge to be applied and be true. Even in that case, I want an ORDERLY PROCESS, not some random, frontier-style justice, to occur.

The heat of the moment is typically NO TIME for a decision of guilt or innocence to be made. Further, it's DEFINITELY NOT the moment for sentencing and the carrying out of that decision to occur.

It's with this mind, I found the actions of a national member of the United States Congress, so reprehensible.

That person, notwithstanding the process, said the ONLY POSSIBLE OUTCOME, where a given case was concerned, was the definite result of GUILT for a person STILL BEING TRIED.

I don't care WHO it is (whether Adolph Hitler or Mohandas Gandhi), due process calls for a PRESUMPTION OF INNOCENCE.

I talk, on today's edition of The Daily Summation from Kurt's Religion and Politics, about PRECISELY this subject.

When I'm able to complete the companion blog entry on the Kurt's Religion and Politics blog, I'll post a link to it here.
