Bile acids are steroid molecules that homogenize fat, assisting its digestion and absorption, along with fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K). It is antimicrobial and backs to keep the terrain of the small intestine clean. Having enough bile prevents bacteria from the colon from colonizing the small intestine. Bile is your body’s natural defense to avoid SIBO. While there may be other underlying causes of SIBO, having a low bile flow and sluggish gallbladder is one reason why someone can develop SIBO.

One of the significant contributing factors to developing SIBO include inadequate low bile flow or bile production from the gallbladder. The production of bile needs amino acids taurine and glycine, vitamin C, cholesterol, and lecithin. Vitamin C is a need for the enzymatic shift of cholesterol to bile salts. Taurine and glycine are conjugated with bile salts.
