Breath of Fire is also known as "skull shining breath" or Kapalabhati. It is commonly done as part of Kundalini yoga. It can last anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes, depending on your experience level and preference. Research suggests some benefits of the practice, but it is not extensively studied. The technique is done in a seated position and can be done in the same position for up to ten minutes.
The inhale and exhale should be the same length, without any pauses in between, and the pattern of your breathing is more important than the speed. The exhale requires you to contract your abdominal muscles, which is the main focus of this technique.
