Aiding a fawn out of a tight situation

I always wonder if animals in situations like this are aware that the human helped them, or they think the human wanted to eat them and they just happened to escape miraculously.

But I guess probably they are way simpler like "Oh I'm stuck. Bad. Wow, now I'm free. Good. Hi mom!"
