The Global Crisis of Values | Leena Al Olaimy | TEDxCarthage

The social sector often speaks with some moral authority on addressing the ‘root causes’ of social issues. Yet isn’t the root cause of most global issues we face—be they conflict, climate change or inequality—the values and human conditions which allowed these problems to exist in the first place? Stephen Hawking recently noted that while technology has given us the power to destroy the planet, we have not yet developed the ability to escape it. As tech advances exponentially, and we grapple with achieving the sustainable development goals by 2030, ensuring our survival as a human species demands a reboot of human values so that we become ‘like-hearted’-- if not necessarily like-minded.
