In this video, Dr. J talks about the dietary and lifestyle changes a person can make to increase their body’s sensitivity to insulin. Insulin is a hormone that assist the body keeps blood sugar levels balanced and absorb glucose. Insulin resistance makes it hard for the body’s cells to absorb glucose. However, some food template measures can enhance insulin resistance.
Insulin resistance is when the cells in the body do not absorb insulin appropriately. Eventually, insulin resistance can cause a range of problems, including permanently increase blood sugar levels and cell damage to limbs, organs, muscles, and eyes.
People with insulin resistance commonly receive a diagnosis of prediabetes, which might lead to diabetes type 2. People who are insulin resistant may need several check-ups to make sure they do not progress type 2 diabetes. Also, food template plays a vital role in avoiding insulin resistance. Eating foods with a low GL and GI and managing body weight and abdominal fat can reduce the risk. A primarily plant-based diet that is high in fiber and low in carbohydrates can help moderate the threat.
